On 24 September, at the headquarters of the National Research Council (CNR) in Rome, the kick-off meeting of the “Wide Band Gap Pilot Line” project officially marked the start of a new European technological infrastructure dedicated to Wide Band Gap (WBG) semiconductors
The European Chips Act represents a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bolstering Europe’s semiconductor sector, which is critical for everything from smart devices to electric vehicles.
Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) announces the successful evaluation of the submitted innovative semiconductor pilot line proposals and has started negotiations with four consortia, aiming at signing the relevant agreements later this year. The step promises to catalyse innovation in the region and reinforce Europe’s technological leadership on the global stage.
The acquisition and operation of the WBG Pilot Line is funded jointly by the Chips Joint Undertaking, through the European Union’s Digital Europe programme and Horizon Europe programme, as well as by the Participating States Italy, Sweden, Poland, Finland, Austria, France and Germany under Grant Agreement n. 101183211.
