The PhD Summer Schoot SSIE 2026

A fantastic start of the PhD Summer Schoot SSIE 2026 – Track 2: GaN and Related Materials, organized in beautiful Bressanone by the Department of Information Engineering (DEI) of the University of Padova.

The first two days have brought together students, researchers, and leading experts to explore the latest advances in wide and ultra-wide band gap semiconductors for next-generation power and RF electronics.

Their excellent lectures highlighted complementary aspects of the European Wide Band Gap (WBG) Pilot Line, showcasing the latest developments in SiC, GaN, and emerging ultra-wide band gap materials, from materials and epitaxy to devices and applications.

Equally inspiring has been the enthusiastic interaction between the speakers and the students, with lively discussions continuing well beyond the lecture room and creating an ideal environment for learning, networking, and exchanging ideas.

A special thanks to Matteo Meneghini and Gaudenzio Meneghesso for their outstanding scientific leadership, and to the tireless Manuel Fregolent — the true factotum of the school — for ensuring that every detail runs smoothly.
